Distanced-based road tolling to drive fuel efficiency

To phase out time-based road tolling for trucks in Europe by 2024.

The European Commission proposes to phase out time-based road tolling for trucks in Europe by 2024. The NGO Transport & Environment (T&E) welcomes the switch to a distanced-based system for levying charges per kilometre. It will encourage drivers to take the most efficient route and discourage empty trips while reducing congestion and pollution.

Tolls will also take into account the trucks’ carbon emissions, and zero-emission vehicles will be given a 75% toll discount. Read more
