City logistics: the institute for transport and logistics in new initiatives in Erupe and beyond

ITL attended on invitation of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to the research conference on city logistics sponsored by TRB, the European Commission and the United States Department of Transportation, in Washington DC on the 30th
and 31st of May 2013.

The symposium took place at the National Academy of Sciences and it activated a process of definition of a transatlantic research agenda on city
logistics. Among the participants the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Austin University - Texas, UPS, the University of Southern California, Bocconi University.

Center of Excellence on Sustainable Urban Freight Systems

The Center of Excellence on Sustainable Urban Freight Systems is funded by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) through its Future Urban Transport research program and recognized as a VREF Center of Excellence. The initiative is led by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York and it involves 36 partners, including Universities, research centers,
logistics operators, cities and Ministries in 6 continents. ITL is a project associate research center, the only Italian of the CoE. The CoE will develop research, dissemination, training and piloting activities on sustainable urban freight in the next 5 years.

SMILE - Smart green innovative urban logistics for energy efficient Mediterranean cities

The SMILE project is starting up, funded by the MED European Territorial Cooperation Programme. It focuses on 4 core pillars of city logistics: electric mobility, ICT solutions, waste transport and green labeling of transport operators. ITL is responsible of the project analytical, and transport modeling activities. Emilia-Romagna Region is a project associated partner. The activities started in June 2013.
