Nine instead of seven tracks

The station at the Altenwerder container terminal in Hamburg is to be expanded over the next six months. The facility, managed by the German port operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), will have nine rail tracks instead of seven, and the capacity will be boosted to 930,000 teu, some 140,000 teu more than at present.

The overall size of the station will remain the same, but the distance between the tracks will be narrowed. This will prevent staff from manually checking container data. Read more
