Gotthard: 57 days of scheduled services

SBB Cargo began its first scheduled freight services through the 57 km long Gotthard base tunnel in Switzerland on 11 December 2016. A regular-interval timetable for wagonload freight was also launched at the same time. So far operations have been largely disruption-free, according to the Swiss railfreight company.

 

Every day, a hundred trains transporting some 41,000 t of goods travel through the base tunnel, saving the equivalent of 3,600 LGV trips. Read more
