New bridge creates demand for air freight - road haulage intermodal links

Shipping services expansion continues despite unrest in Hong Kong.

 

HONG KONG – With a general strike under way in the 'special administrative region' of China, things must be particularly stressed there at the moment as tensions rise after the people's backlash against proposed extradition laws. Life however goes on, and for Hong Kong Air Cargo Industry Services Limited (Hacis), the internal trade links have just been strengthened.

 

Hacis, the value-added logistics arm of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), has extended its SuperLink China Direct (SLCD) scheduled road feeder services to Zhuhai and the western Pearl River Delta (PRD). The new SLCD services result from a collaboration with Civet (Zhu Hai) Logistics, a subsidiary of Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (CKS), following the signing of a strategic partnership agreement covering the development of joint logistics activity throughout the western PRD.

 

The western PRD, so densely populated it is considered by many as a ‘megacity’, is home to many electronics manufacturers and technology companies, and Hacis and CKS have identified the potential demand for air-road intermodal services to serve this sector, following the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which now provides a faster and more cost-effective connection to and from Hong Kong International Airport.

 

Hacis’ SLCD service network now includes Civet Port (located adjacent to the exit of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge), and the surrounding area of the PRD. Read more
