EU - More trains please says Antwerp

An additional rail link is vital to ensure that future goods flows are managed in an efficient and eco-friendly manner.

 

The port of Antwerp (Belgium) would like to see more rail connections to/from and in the Rhine-Ruhr basin. The port representative, Hans Königs, explained, “an additional rail link is vital to ensure that future goods flows are managed in an efficient and eco-friendly manner.”

 

Antwerp, which had a throughput in excess of 208 million t in 2015, is registering the strongest growth compared to Europe’s other major seaports. Last year, the volume of traffic with Germany reached 65 million t, of that tonnage 40% was transported on inland waterway, 15% by rail and 45% by road. Read more
