IRU has underlined its commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in a set of published observations on the European Commission’s 2016 Communication on Low-Emission Mobility (available here).
Welcoming the strategy outlined in the Communication, IRU backs the prioritisation of heavy duty vehicles as a key area for the deployment and research of alternative fuels and low-emission options. However, IRU questions the potential contribution of fair and efficient road pricing mechanisms to the reduction of CO2 emissions and would like to see greater recognition of initiatives already being taken by the industry to reduce its environmental footprint.
