IRU outlined how modal integration is key to sustainability.
IRU stresses the importance of harnessing the strengths of all transport modes to increase efficiency and so reduce carbon emissions at the Global Rail Freight Conference in Genova, Italy this week.
Calling for strengthened cooperation across the industry, including from governments, manufacturers, transport infrastructure providers and road transport operators, IRU outlined how modal integration is key to sustainability.
IRU cited the Slovenia to Iran intermodal TIR pilot operation, which considerably reduced transport time using TIR across a combination of modes including road, maritime and rail. Read more
