DHL's history

In 1969, three American young men founded DHL International: Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom e Robert Lynn. They had the brilliant intuition to personally ship papers by airplane from California to Hawaii, beginning customs clearance of the ship's cargo before the actual arrival of the ship and dramatically reducing waiting time in the harbour.
DHL, in a short time, kept on growing opening new offices all around the world. Nowadays DHL is present in more than 220 countries. By 1978, DHL was already present in Italy as DHL International, leader in air express services.
By the end of 2002, DHL was 100% owned by Deutsche Post World Net.
This acquisition allowed Deutsche Post World Net to start an integration and development program (STAR) between its express and logistics societies: DHL Worldwide Express, Danzas, Deutsche Post Euro Express and the Italian Casa di Spedizione Ascoli.
In 2003, Deutsche Post World Net consolidated all its express and logistics activities into one single brand, DHL.
In December 2005, Deutsche Post World Net acquired the U.K. logistics company Exel, becoming the global leader in air freight, ocean freight and contract logistics.
DHL is currently present on the market with DHL EXPRESS, DHL FREIGHT and two new brand: DHL GLOBAL FORWARDING e DHL EXEL SUPPLY CHAIN.
