Drastic reduction in the existing railway lines in the country
Unife, the European Rail Supply Industry Association, and AIF, the Romanian Railway Industry Association, have called for the investment of EU structural funds in Romania's rail infrastructure. During the Club Feroviar and AIF's “Railway days wider Black Sea area railway investment summit” in Bucharest, the two organisations drew attention to the challenging situation and perspectives of Romania's rail system in connection with the general transport master plan draft that has been outlined by the current Romanian Government. The proposals foresee a drastic reduction in the existing railway lines in the country.
In addition, Unife and its Romanian members expressed the need for Romania to properly absorb and invest the European structural funds that are available through the connecting Europe facility (CEF), TEN-T, and EU cohesion policy in the lagging rail infrastructure.
